Our Day of Donors 2016

28. September 2016

On 25th September 2016 the Executive Board and Board of Trustees of our Foundation hosted our 2nd Day of Donors event in Dresden. At the Hotel Martha more than 20 guests learned about past, current and future projects

of the Johann Sebastian Bach Foundation. Bachhaus Director Dr Jörg Hansen spoke in depth about last year’s purchase of the Bach portrait by Gebel for the collection of the Bachhaus Eisenach. Andreas Keller gave a detailed presentation about our multi-year project Bach-Kommentar by Prof. Dr Martin Petzoldt. Dr Michael Maul, member of the Executive Board of the Neue Bachgesellschaft, delivered an entertaining talk about the current status of Bach research and the exceptional results from recent years.

The Day of Donors event began and ended with music from Bach. In the morning, guests attended a cantata mass at the Church of the Three Kings (Dreikönigskirche). This mass was organised in the context of the Bach Festival Dresden and included a performance of the Bach cantata BWV 149 Man singet mit Freuden vom Sieg (There are joyful songs of victory). At the end of the day, the group enjoyed a Festival concert celebrating the 800th anniversary of the boys’ choir Dresdner Kreuzchor at the church of the Holy Cross (Kreuzkirche). The programme included a performance of Bach’s Mass in B minor by the Dresdner Kreuzchor and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin under the baton of Kreuzkirche cantor (Kreuzkantor) Roderich Kreile.
